Anyone can hand you a list of sixty names. The useful question is narrower: which places say so themselves, and which ones are just listed that way by somebody else? So each spot below is tagged by the kind of evidence behind it, with a link straight to their own site so you can see what we saw.
They say so The restaurant’s own website says dogs are welcome. Quoted underneath.
Reported Other guides list it as dog-friendly, but the restaurant’s own site doesn’t mention pets. Usually fine — but this is the group to call ahead about.
Cody approves Cody is our dog, and this one comes from us rather than from a website. It means a local who eats there vouches for it. On paper it’s the weakest of the three, because nobody has published it — but it’s the only badge here where someone has actually stood in the parking lot with a dog.

Porches change hands, policies change with them, and every one of these is outdoor seating only unless they tell you otherwise. If dinner depends on it, call. Spotted something out of date? hello@obxmaps.com — this list gets tended.
Where a place is only Reported, we have put its phone number under the entry — taken from the restaurant’s own site — so you can settle it in one call rather than turning up hopeful. Three of them publish no number we could verify; those keep the link to their site instead.
Dinner is the easy part. What shapes the rest of the day is the beach rule, and it changes town by town — all nine towns compared.
Corolla
Mike Dianna’s Grill Room
They say so
Not on their website — on their own Facebook, twice this year. June: “It’s a gorgeous day to sit on our pet friendly deck!!!” April: “A meal on the deck is awesome and dog friendly!!” The deck has a live-music stage, and their Saturday check-in party — Corolla’s changeover day — is by their own account full of dogs.
Corolla Cantina
They say so
Their own site says it twice: “We have a pet-friendly deck, amazing staff and beautiful sunset and lighthouse views” — and, on the about page, “Bring Fido along as the patio is pet-friendly.” The deck is the dog spot; the indoor room is where you go when the sun wins.
Bacchus Wine & Gourmet

More market than restaurant — you’ll be ordering at a counter. Their site mentions a “quiet patio” and nothing about dogs, so this one’s on the guides rather than on them. Worth knowing: the same shop trades under a couple of different Bacchus names online, so don’t be thrown if the sign and the website disagree.
Sooey’s BBQ & Rib Shack

Their site doesn’t describe outdoor seating at either location, let alone a pet policy. Heads up on a mix-up we found in several guides: the rooftop tables with the Jockey’s Ridge sunset belong to the Nags Head Sooey’s, not this one.

The waterfront tables over Currituck Sound are real and documented on their site; the dog part isn’t mentioned there. Pairs with a lap of the boardwalk either way.

Sunsets over the sound and a casual waterfront setting, per their own description. No pet policy published, and the “spacious covered deck” you’ll read elsewhere comes from the guides, not from AQUA.

Patio, lawn, and an outdoor “Backside Bar” — the setting is the draw. Their website is a thin social feed that’s often down, so treat anything you read about hours as a rumor and phone them. Dogs: outside only, and reported rather than stated.

They say so
They run a Pup of the Week. Their own post: “Everyone meet Holly, our Pup of the Week! This cutie enjoyed a paws-itively perfect day dining on our dog-friendly tiki deck!” Their website mentions the tiki deck and a koi pond and not one word about dogs, and no dog guide we checked lists them at all — BringFido has seventeen Kitty Hawk restaurants and this isn’t one.
The deck is upstairs and oceanfront, so: stairs, which matters for an old or a heavy dog, and not much shade at midday. They expanded it in 2026.
Shipwrecks Taphouse & Grill
They say so
Straight from their site: “Enjoy our covered, pet-friendly patio or ocean view top deck.” Read that carefully — the “pet-friendly” is attached to the covered patio, so that’s the one to ask for.
Art’s Place
Reported
Outdoor dining plus a newer ocean-view deck bar. Dogs get a warm write-up in the travel guides and no mention at all on their own site, so ask when you walk up.

John’s Drive In
Reported
A walk-up drive-in, so the seating is outdoors by definition — umbrella-shaded tables across from the water. The closest their site comes to a dog policy is putting pup cups on the menu, which we’d call a strong hint rather than a promise. Seasonal: check they’re open before you drive over.

Kill Devil Hills
American Pie Pizza & Homemade Ice Cream
Reported
Their own line is “only outdoor seating available, but plenty of seats and shaded options” — which suits a dog fine, and means there’s no indoor option to drift into. They publish no pet policy, and we found at least one account of a dog being turned back from going inside, so keep him at the tables. The good news for a KDH stay: this and the dog park are how you get through the 9-to-6 beach hours.

The SaltBox Cafe
They say so
They wrote him a menu. Their own post: “🐶 ‘Paw-some’ Menu now available for the pups on the porch! 🐶” It is not on their website, and the dog guides that do list them describe the porch without mentioning it — as far as we can tell nobody has reported the menu at all.
Covered porch over Colington Creek, twenty-two seats, and no reservations for the porch — it’s walk-up, and they say themselves they fill fast. Two miles down Colington Road, so it’s a drive rather than a stroll, and parking is tight enough that they ask people to carpool.
We have not linked their website: its security certificate no longer works, so a browser will warn you before it opens. Their social pages are fine.
Country Deli
They say so
Not on their website — on their own Facebook, over and over, for six years. This June: “join us in the pet friendly backyard and enjoy a cold beer or Mimosa and a delicious sandwich.” In March: “Pet friendly backyard is wide open.” And the backyard is a proper beer garden — umbrella-shaded picnic tables, beer and wine served out there — not two chairs by the bins.
Family-run since 1990, and they moved across the street into the bigger building in 2025, so those posts describe the current spot. Sandwiches travel well if he’d rather not sit still. Every dog guide we checked has missed this one, which is the best argument for putting it here.
Beachcombers Tiki Hut

The sign on the door says “well behaved dogs welcome” — we’ve read it standing there. It is nowhere on their website, whose FAQ page is published with nothing on it, so searching won’t find you this. What is online: management answering a review with “we love welcoming all members of the family—especially the furry ones,” and five years of diners saying the same thing, two of whom mention staff bringing a water bowl out unprompted.
Oceanfront, on a deck over the sand under two thatched tiki huts, so there’s real shade on an August afternoon. One thing to know before you drive down: it’s on the second floor of the Ramada, so there are stairs, and you may end up walking him through a hotel lobby. There’s a side entrance — worth asking about when you ring.
Nags Head
Fish Heads Bar & Grill
They say so
The most explicit answer on this whole list. Their FAQ: “Can I bring my dog? Yes! We even have dog friendly items on the menu!” — followed by the part most guides leave out: pets are not allowed out on the pier itself. Service dogs only out there. The deck is mostly open-air and umbrella-shaded, and they’ll warn you themselves that it’s a windy place.
Mulligan’s Grille
They say so
They built him his own section: “a doggy dining area outside for you and your furry friends, including menu options specially created for your pup.” Covered deck with dune views, plus the tiki bar. Dogs stay in the outdoor doggy area, not the dining rooms.
Two things their own posts add that the website doesn’t. The dog menu is real food, not a gesture — one post has a dog called Lily on “ice cold water and chicken and rice after a perfect day at the beach.” And the tiki bar runs heaters in winter: “The Tiki Bar is OPEN (with heaters on!) and is just the spot for you and your furry friend to grab a bite!” — posted in February. This is the rare OBX porch that works in January.
Waveriders Coffee, Deli & Market
They say so
Their words: “We love dogs! We are pet friendly in our outside dining areas… all pets must stay outside” — the indoor limit is state health code, not attitude. One practical note: you order inside, so bring somebody to hold the leash.
Yellow Submarine
They say so
From their FAQ: “We also have outdoor picnic tables where you can enjoy your meal with family, friends, and even your four-legged companions.” Picnic tables, so no shade guarantee — worth a thought in August.
Tortugas’ Lie

Shaded patio and a sand volleyball yard out back. Their site says outside dining runs “in season” and says nothing about dogs, so both parts are worth a phone call in the shoulder months.

The outdoor deck over the water is on their own menu pages; the dog policy isn’t anywhere on their site. You’ll also see a “dog menu” credited to them around the web — it isn’t on any menu they publish, so don’t promise the dog anything.

Picnic tables outside, order at the counter inside. Two things we couldn’t pin down: their own site and the listings disagree about the street number, and it carries no pet or seating information at all. Reviewers mention the ground out there being rough underfoot — fine for him, awkward for a chair.
Sooey’s BBQ & Rib Shack

This is the Sooey’s with the rooftop tables and the sunset over Jockey’s Ridge — first-floor picnic tables too. All of that, and the dog part, comes from the guides rather than from Sooey’s, who publish neither.

Manteo
Salt & Cypress Kitchen + Cocktails
They say so
The best thing we found this month, and no dog guide has it. Their own words: “Now seating in the yard alongside all the boats docked here in Shallowbag Bay Marina, watch the charter boats unload their fresh catch as you eat yours. Dogs are always welcome on the patio and yard outside!”
Note the yard, not just a patio — grass along the docks, which is a different proposition for a dog than a table wedged between two others. Marina-side, so shade is thin. The line about dogs appears on their own site too, but buried where no search will surface it.
Big Buck’s Ice Cream
They say so
Five years of their own posts, and a pup cup that appears on no menu anywhere: “Phoebe loves her whipped cream! Get your pup a cup today!” Also “Elmo enjoyed his scoop of Vanilla ice cream in a cake cone today!!! So cute!!! Disclaimer* Bring us all the puppies, we don’t mind.” And from 2020: “We love our furry customers just as much as their humans!”
Walk-up windows with benches rather than proper patios, so it’s a stop rather than a sit — but there’s no indoor room to be turned out of, which makes it the easiest dog stop on the beach. Not in a single dog guide, despite five shops across four towns.
Darrell’s Seafood Restaurant
They say so
New in 2026, which is why you won’t find it in the older guides. Their announcement, in June: “We are now dog friendly on the outdoor patio so bring your four legged family members to dine outside !!!” A month later: “come hang out & dine with us on the outside patio!! And you can even bring your furry friends.” Their own website doesn’t mention the patio, let alone the dogs.
Blue Water Grill — Mimi’s Tiki Hut
They say so
The distinction here matters, and they draw it themselves: “Four-legged friends are welcome at our downstairs bar, Mimi’s Tiki Hut.” Downstairs — the tiki hut, not the main restaurant upstairs. Turn up at the wrong door and the answer is no.
Old Tom’s Beer, Wine & Wares
They say so
Their own line: “The porch is calling! Enjoy fresh drafts and wine with us… Dogs and kids are always welcome.” Covered front porch in downtown Manteo, and it sits inside the Downtown Manteo Social District — so you can walk out with your drink and the dog and keep going along the waterfront. Their website has gone offline since we first listed them, so there is nothing left to link — the shop itself is still there, next to the Pioneer Theater.
Lost Colony Tavern

The weakest entry on this page, and we’d rather say so. The Manteo restaurant now trades as Lost Colony Tavern — British-Isles-leaning pub food — while the brewery’s waterfront beer garden is a separate business down in Nags Head, and several dog-friendly listings still blur the two. So the dog reports pinned to this address predate the change, and the Tavern’s own site doesn’t describe outdoor seating at all. Call first. The waterfront walk in Manteo is worth the trip regardless.

Ocracoke
Ocracoke Oyster Company
They say so
Said in both places, which is rare. On their site: “lounge around on our pet-friendly deck for cornhole and family games.” On their own Facebook: “Our porch is pup friendly 🐾🍺 See you soon!” There’s a screened porch and a separate open deck — the deck is the dog part.
Ocracoke has almost nothing published about dogs, so two entries on this island is two more than most lists manage. Getting here means the ferry.
Zillie’s Island Pantry
They say so
Our favorite sentence on any of these sites: “We also welcome friendly, leashed dogs – and we have treats for pups, too!” The deck is the place, counter service is the deal, and hours shrink hard in the off-season. Getting there means the ferry, which he’ll enjoy more than the lunch.
Breweries
We looked at the Outer Banks breweries the same way as everything else on this page, and the result is worth stating plainly: only one of them publishes a pet policy. Every brewery here has outdoor seating and every guide on the internet will tell you they are dog friendly, but only 1718 Brewing on Ocracoke — through its kitchen — says so in writing. We checked each one’s website and its Facebook posts. The rest are Reported, and this is the section to ring ahead about.
Outer Banks Brewing Station
ReportedTheir own site shows people eating outdoors at picnic tables and advertises live music in the backyard, but says nothing about dogs anywhere — and neither do their Facebook posts, where every mention of a dog turns out to be a band name. The backyard is the obvious spot to ask about.

1718 Brewing Ocracoke
They say soThe brewery’s own web address no longer resolves, but Marauder’s Kitchen, the kitchen inside it, publishes the answer plainly: “We’re dog-friendly outside, so feel free to bring your pups.” The brewery says much the same on Facebook — “Bring the love people . We all love our dog kitty etc family members” — so outside is the place, and on an island where the beach is already open to him it is the obvious stop.
Weeping Radish Farm Brewery
ReportedThe oldest brewery in the state and an easy stop on the drive in or out. Their site describes the taproom but never mentions pets either way. Their Facebook is warm about dogs in general — they once asked people to send in dog-and-beer photos — but they have never said whether you can bring one, so we don’t know.
Lost Colony Tavern in Manteo is listed above under Manteo. Its brewery site could not be read at all — the certificate fails — so the entry there stands on the same Reported footing.
