Pet Friendly Outer Banks
✓ Pet policies read on each company’s and hotel’s own site — October 2026

Corolla asks less of a dog than any town on the coast. No summer hours, no seasonal ban, no midday exile: on a leash, the beach is his any hour of any day of the year. It’s also where the biggest rental company on the northern beaches charges nothing at all for him, and where all three hotels say yes. If the whole family wants the beach from ten to four in July and the dog is part of the family, this is the easy town.

The horses, the parking permit and the end of the pavement are on Corolla with a dog →. This page is the house.

The companies, and the one that charges nothing

Corolla is Twiddy’s home ground, and Twiddy is the reason a lot of dog owners end up here. Read on each company’s own policy page:

Twiddy also has a Fenced-in Yard filter on its site, which matters more here than anywhere: a fenced yard in Corolla is a rare thing. The full table for every company on the coast, with sources: the fee, company by company →

So the arithmetic for a week with two dogs runs from $0 at Twiddy to $350 plus tax at Seaside for the same beach, and the weight caps decide who can book where. A dog over 75 lb needs Twiddy, Village, KEES or Sun. Two big dogs is Twiddy. That isn’t an endorsement, just what the policy pages say.

The two Corollas

Corolla is really two places with one zip code, and the house decides which you’re in.

  • The paved side. Sixteen public beach accesses with free parking, the lighthouse, the village, the restaurants. Any pet-friendly house here works like a normal beach week, with the bonus that his beach never closes.
  • Carova, past the end of the road. North of the last pavement on North Carolina Highway 12 the beach is the road, and the house is reached by driving it. You need a real 4WD to get there at all, a county beach parking permit to stop on the sand in season (your rental company issues one to guests), and a leash every time he leaves the vehicle, because the wild horses in the yards are a leash matter, not a photo op. Twiddy’s inventory runs up here. Carova with a dog, properly →

If the house is on the paved side, the day he’ll remember is still twenty minutes north. North of Corolla the pavement ends and the beach is the road: wild horses in the yards, eleven miles of sand to the Virginia line, and no seasonal rule on dogs. Carova with a dog, or rent a 4x4 in Kill Devil Hills that takes him at no extra charge, with the Off-Roading with Fido game included.

Other all-day towns: Nags Head and Kitty Hawk. The off-leash one next door: Duck.

Questions people ask before they book

Which Corolla rental companies allow dogs, and what do they charge?
Twiddy & Company charges no pet fee at all (up to two housebroken pets, none in pools or hot tubs). Brindley Beach sets a non-refundable fee per house, two dogs, 60 lb each, crated if left alone. Seaside Vacations charges $175 per dog per week plus tax, two dogs, 75 lb, mature dogs only. Village Realty, KEES, Sun Realty and Carolina Designs put the fee on the individual listing; Carolina Designs posts a weight limit at some houses.
Can my dog be on the beach in Corolla during the day in summer?
Yes. Corolla has no summer hours and no seasonal ban: any day, any hour, on a leash. Currituck County’s rule is simply that he can’t run at large, and his collar needs a current rabies tag. Oceanfront in Corolla buys you the whole day on the sand.
Do Corolla hotels take dogs?
All three of them. The Hampton Inn & Suites ($75 for one to four nights, $125 for five or more, two pets under 75 lb combined), the Inn at Corolla (dog-friendly rooms, reserve ahead, dogs only, no fee published) and the Corolla Village Inn ($75 cleaning fee, Rooms 2 and 3 only, two dogs).
